Skelterton is the nearest of the Cracoe reef knolls to the village of Cracoe.
Skelterton is known locally as 'Mohican hill' due to the strip of trees which run down the centre of the summit. The rich carboniferous limestone beneath the surface of the hill provides a nutrient rich soil which feeds the grass giving Skelterton its emerald green colour.
